Kieni Member of Parliament Kanini Kega has responded to an incident where he was scolded in public by Deputy President William Ruto at a funeral service in Nyeri, on Tuesday.
Kega received a tongue lashing from Ruto during the funeral service of Martha Gachagua, mother to Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, after claiming President Uhuru Kenyatta had sent him to represent him at the funeral.
When he took to the podium, he handed over a Sh500,000 contribution to the family reportedly from the president.
In a statement, he told his critics to take their complaints to the president.
"The president can send anyone. He has friends all over, I am not supposed to be asked any questions. Let them direct their questions to the president himself,” he said.
Addressing mourners at the funeral, Ruto took issue with Kega's remarks, noting that he is Uhuru deputy, and therefore the president's sole messenger.
"You all know that there is only one person in Kenya who was sworn in to deputise the President. And I will do that very diligently. Everybody should do their job," said Ruto.
