Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has opposed the push to have county bosses facing graft charges to step aside pending the conclusion of their cases.
In an exclusive interview on KTN’s Point Blank show, Waiguru said that the push to lock the county bosses out of their offices until their cases are determined is unfair. She noted that the mandate of the governors comes from the people, adding that the move is a threat to democracy.
Her remarks came after Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and his Samburu counterpart Moses Lenolkulal were barred from accessing their offices until they are cleared of the corruption charges levelled against them.
The outspoken governor said that the court should revisit the Constitution over the matter to allow governors to deliver their mandate.
She faulted High Court Judge Mumbi Ngugi for barring governors from accessing their offices before they clear their names in graft related charges.
“The mandate of the governor comes from the people. When in court, you are innocent until proven guilty,” she said. as quoted by the Standard.
Waiguru said that governors are going to use different means to ensure they get justice, further hinting that they could seek legal redress from the Court of Appeal over the matter.
