Speaking at Uasin Gishu County Assembly on Tuesday Aukot said those against the bill are undermining devolution by opposing increased resources and funding to the wards.

“It’s sad that politicians are now going around telling Kenyans to reject Punguza Mzigo and support BBI for their political gain. I  instead urge Kenyans to read the proposal and should not wait for politicians to decide for them,” said Aukot.

Aukot questioned the motives behind the major political parties refusing to support the bill terming them pretenders who only want their stomachs full.

He, however, revealed that the bill is getting support from some county assemblies.

“The bill is being received devoid of any politics since MCA’s what to understand the contents of the bill and seek clarification where they haven’t understood. Let’s not politicize the bill and leave wananchi to decide,” added the Third way Alliance Kenya Party leader.

Ekuru further said that once the Punguza Mizigo bill is adopted, the country will save Sh3.78 trillion.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale and Moses Wetangula are on record telling Kenyans to reject Punguza Mizigo proposals and wait for the Building Bridges Initiative report.

Uasin Gishu County Assembly will next week conduct public participation on Punguza Mizigo Bill ahead of a debate in the House to either reject or adopt it.

The Punguza Mizigo initiative wants the reduction of MPs from the current 416 to 147, removal of women representatives and nominated leaders among other things
