Garissa County is working hard to implement gender equity and to ensure more women change their lives and are empowered.
The county government of Garissa together with the National Gender and Equality Commission conducted a day-long sensitization workshop on Thursday.
The workshop was organized with the aim of finding a solution on how to change the narrative around girls and women.
The workshop also focused on the rights and opportunities for special interest groups which include women, children, youth, persons living with disabilities, older members of society, minorities and marginalised groups.
The Commission's chief executive officer Betty Nyabuto urged county governments to embrace articles in the constitution that touch on gender issues.
Nyabuto further urged the county governments to work closely with her organisation to address gender issues.
The CEC for Gender, Culture and Sports Zeinabu Abdi Digale said women will be major beneficiaries of the County revolving fund as 50 per cent of the fund will be allocated to women.
“The county government has already established a revolving fund for Garissa community to address gender imbalances. 50 per cent of the funds will go to women while 30 per cent will go to persons with disabilities,” said Digale.
Members of the committee led by Nyabuto had paid a courtesy call on Garissa Deputy Governor Abdi Dagane in his office.
