Mwai Kibaki Teaching and Referral Hospital commonly referred to as Othaya Level Six will be officially opened on Tuesday.
The facility located in Othaya town was launched by retired President Mwai Kibaki in 2010.
It has been out of operation for approximately nine years.
According to the Public Service Commission chairperson Steven Kirogo, the hospital which is equipped with 527 staffs is ready to start providing health services.
"We have recruited 527 staff including the chief executive officer, professionals and support staff and we expect they will start work even as we make plans to recruit more,” Kirogo stated as quoted by the Standard.
The hospital, however, requires 1,347 staff for ideal performance.
Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga who toured the hospital ahead of its reopening thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for elevating it to a referral level.
"I am happy that President Uhuru Kenyatta heard our pleas and made the facility a referral hospital, it has been a cordial and beneficial relationship between the governments at county and national level,” Kahiga noted as quoted by the Standard.
The reopening of the hospital is expected to ease congestion at Nyeri County Referral Hospital.
