Three family members are fighting for their lives at Nyamira County Referral Hospital after they were allegedly attacked by thugs on the wee hours of Monday morning.
The three, whose identity could not be revealed immediately, are said to have been sleeping in their house in Magombo, Nyamira County, when the thugs broke into the house and attacked them.
Area Chief Fred Obae said the victims sustained cut injuries during the attack.
"The three members of one family were asleep at around 1 am when thugs broke into their house and beat them up. The thugs demanded for money which the victim did not have prompting them to attack," said the chief.
The administrator noted that the thugs fled into a nearby bush after the victims screamed for help.
He said efforts by members of the public who responded to the screams to go after the thugs, did not yield fruits.
"The public did not manage to get hold of the thugs as they fled faster. The victims were rushed to Nyamira hospital where they are being treated and they are out of danger," he added.
The chief assured that a report was made at Magombo Police Post and a search for the thugs has been launched.
