Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has faulted Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju after he announced that the party will block leaders facing corruption allegations from party elections next year.
In an exclusive interview with Sunday Nation, Tuju said the President Uhuru Kenyatta-led outfit will not allow politicians under graft probe to vie for any leadership positions during polls slated for March 2020.
“You cannot abet corruption and say you are a staunch member of Jubilee yet the party advocates for zero tolerance to corruption in its manifesto,” he said.
Khalwale accused Tuju of overstepping his mandate by making declarations such as party elections which should come from other organs of the party.
"It is not in question that the Jubilee Party is a properly functional institution. The SG should patiently wait to be informed by party organs on weighty matters like these. Without conclusive conviction, political rights are sacrosanct and cannot be taken away from any Kenyan," the former legislator tweeted.
Khalwale has been among allies of Deputy President William Ruto who have been accusing Tuju of a plan to stop the DP from wresting control of the Jubilee ahead of 2022 general election.
The Sec-Gen, however, has rubbished the claims saying he has always briefed Ruto all the plans about the governing party.
"You can't stop people from branding you... In fact, I have discussed Jubilee affairs with the DP then I have with the President," Tuju said on Sunday during Punchline segment on K24.
