We have gathered and put in one basket all the comical phrases that elated Kenyans as they went about their daily chores. 

Krimino/Mafirifiri 

The phrases ‘Krimino’ and ‘Mafiriri’ was inducted to Kenyans by Nairobi County Assembly nominated MCA Mary Njambi. 

She brought Kenyans into attention during the unceremonious ouster of Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi after she and other ward representatives stormed Elachi’s office to eject her. 

Njambi was nicknamed ‘mafirifiri’ after she bitterly complained about pepper spray used to chase the MCAs away by the Speaker terming the action as ‘Krimino’ (Criminal) 

I Kiff Up

This infamous term 'i kiff up' by West Pokot Governor John Lonyang’apuo was hilariously referring to how amazing his development record has made his predecessor restless. 

The phrase simply meant ‘I give up’ but what made it funny is the manner in which the governor pronounced it.

Inauma but…

The phrase by Kenya’s upcoming rapper Stivo Simple Boy is still a household consolation for many Kenyans. It was mainly used to refer to humiliating moments we face but still soldier on despite the pain and trauma. 

The young rapper made the hilarious remarks when revisiting the bashing he received while trying to make a breakthrough in the music industry.

Matuta/Lubbish   

The words were coined from controversial Neno Evangelism Pastor James Ng’ang’a after he was provoked by the disrespect by his junior staff towards his wife

Ng’ang’a went on a ranting spree during one of his comical church services slamming his junior pastors for allegedly growing horns (matuta) after years of hard upbringing and mentorship by him.
