ODM leader Raila Odinga has often questioned Dr Ruto's donations, insisting that his source of revenue should be established first before such donations.

But Bishop Joseph Kagunda of Kariki Parish on Sunday asked politicians to spare Dr William Ruto, who was in attendance during the church service.

According to him, there is nothing criminal when someone gives contributions toward building of churches and schools. He said such functions are not meant for early campaigning.

"If helping to build churches, schools and the community is politics, let it be. If helping the poor is about chest thumping, let them continue making noise.

"If they believe giving tithes and offerings is about early campaigns, let it be. Even in the Bible, there are some people who opposed everything. However, with God, everything is possible," he argued.

In  a past function, Dr Ruto dismissed those against contributions, arguing that he was not about to stop helping the church and the community.

“Since Sunday school we learned to kneel before and worship God that’s the only reason we stand before men. We will continue to worship Jehovah with our hearts and substance. We are unashamed of our God and unapologetic of our faith. We are Christians first other title after,” he said.

Suba South MP John Mbadi has prepared a bill that seeks to cap the maximum contributions to the church at Sh100,000, a move that has irritated Dr Ruto's team.
