Deputy President William Ruto has reportedly cancelled a scheduled trip to Nyaribari Masaba under unclear circumstances, a source has confirmed.
The DP was among expected guests in the burial of Dr Hezron Manduku, a former MP in the region for two terms. He died three weeks ago.
According to the source who spoke in confidence, Dr Ruto's decision may have been informed by the trip of ODM leader Raila Odinga, who is also expected to grace the event.
"He has cancelled the trip. He was among those expected. I can't tell why but I suspect it's because of anticipated presence of Raila," said the source without giving further details.
ODM leader Raila Odinga and his deputy Ali Joho are expected in Nyaribari Masaba. Also expected is interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i.
Tanga Tanga brigade will for the first time face Dr Matiang'i and his team in a common event. The two teams have been trading barbs in several occasions.
But Kitutu Masaba MP Shadrack Mose, a close ally of Dr Ruto, insisted that he's not aware if the DP was scheduled to be among those attending.
"Honestly, I am not aware of his coming. Usually, we are notified in advance. I don't think it's true. But why should we read politics even in a funeral event?" he asked.
Dr Ruto is a close ally of current Nyaribari Masaba MP Ezekiel Mochogu. He toured the region early this year where he launched various projects.
