A section of agitated youths on Monday were forced to repair a badly damaged road along Riakworo-Nyaronge area in Kitutu Masaba.
The road has been reportedly in a bad condition, often leading to motorbike and vehicle accidents within the region, something that forced residents to turn into 'contractors'.
For close to a whole day, the youth were dispatched into groups, some digging trenches where others fetching murram from a nearby quarry for repair.
Mr Omwanza Nyangena, who led the exercise, said it was timely because neither the Kitutu Masaba leadership nor the Nyamira County government has bothered to do repairs.
"As taxpayers, there is nothing discouraging like poor service delivery. We have been calling the government to repair the road but nobody seems interested," he said.
"We thought it wise to take responsibility and at least try to repair. We have experienced many accidents in this spot and many people have been forced to live with disabilities," he added.
A close check indicates tgat the road is under the jurisdiction of Kenya Rural Roads Authority and it's an annex of Metamaywa-Mosobeti highway.
Constituency manager Mr Charles Nyabuti, in a phone conversation, said MP Shadrack Mose has been notified over the same and it's his prerogative to order for construction.
"I heard of the complaint and we immediately took note of it. The MP is aware of the matter. He will give orders once he assesses the situation," he added.
Previously, the road was maintained by both KERRA and Kenya Tea Development Agency, which uses it to access many customers in the region.
Each constituency in the country is given at least Sh21 million per financial year for improvement of roads that are under the jurisdiction of KERRA.
