Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has defended the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
There have been claims that the March 9, 2018 unity pact between the president and the ODM boss caused division in the ruling party.
But speaking during AM Live segment on NTV, Wamatangi said Raila and Uhuru buried the hatchet to unite the country, and not to bring down the governing outfit.
"The unity between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga has never been about killing Jubilee, it is about uniting Kenyans," the Senator said on Tuesday.
However, speaking during the same show, former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo asked Raila to use the handshake to kill the ruling party.
He accused President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto of taking the country in the wrong direction and asked the former prime minister to kill Jubilee, just like he helped in ending retired President Daniel Arap Moi's rule.
Midiwo referred to 'Kibaki Tosha' declaration at Uhuru Park that helped retired President Mwai Kibaki defeat KANU in 2002.
"Where we are today, I don’t think Jubilee can survive. Raila must help this country get rid of Jubilee," said the former Minority Leader in the National Assembly.
Both Uhuru and Raila have repeatedly said their handshake was meant to bring peace and unity in the country, and not about succession politics.
