Speaking while accompanying the DP to Kilifi on Friday, the politicians declared that they will not support any changes unless it aims at bettering the lives of Kenyans.

Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa told those pushing for the changes, which seeks to among others expand the Executive, that there can't be amendments to revive their political fortunes.

She told the group led by ODM leader Raila Odinga that the nation has better issues to deal with, adding that financial shortages will make it even harder to hold a referendum.

“We will not respond to a call for reviving the political fortunes of some leaders,” she said.

Her Lungalunga counterpart Khatib Mwashetani termed the BBI a plot to frustrate Ruto's 2022 presidential ambitions.

On his side, the DP said that the nation has to remain calm by not being taken to another supremacy battle through a referendum contest.

He stressed on the need for Kenyans to focus on development that will benefit the entire nation instead of the referendum issue which he said would only benefit a few people.

"We have a debt to Kenyans, which is making their lives better as promised in the Jubilee manifesto and the Big Four Agenda,” he said.

Both Mwashetani and Jumwa were once close allies of Raila who has noted that a referendum is inevitable.

The BBI also enjoys the backing of President Uhuru Kenyatta, at a time when there also exists a separate referendum bid, the Punguza Mizigo initiative, spearheaded by Thirdway Alliance Party boss Ekuru Aukot.
