Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has hit out at Catholic bishops for introducing new regulations to manage donations made to churches.
Speaking on Tuesday during NTV's AM live show, the vocal senator opined that the move was a show of hypocrisy.
"This has just come from the Catholic Church. Too much sounded fury that signifies nothing. It is very hypocritical of those bishops because what they just need to say is that we are not going to invite you to this fundraisers any more. That makes a lot of sense," he said during the show.
Senator Cheruiyot suggested that the best move was to avoid inviting politicians to church functions that need donations as opposed to imposing the tough rules after invitation.
"None of the politicians I know of find themselves in churches and begin presenting donations. It is because they are invited and if they feel that money taken to the church is from proceeds of corruption, it is very simple, do not invite them," the senator added.
The move comes after a section of leaders questioned the source of money Deputy President William Ruto usually donates in churches.
Opposition leaders had threatened to introduce a law that dictates the amount one can contribute to churches.
