Political analyst and university lecturer Prof Edward Kisiang'ani has welcomed the return of exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna back to the country.
Miguna is expected to land at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Tuesday evening after spending almost two years in exile in Canada.
The vocal lawyer was deported twice in 2018, over claims he was not a Kenyan with the government insisting he had denounced Kenyan citizenship when he became a Canadian citizen.
However, in December 2018, the High Court ruled that Miguna was a Kenyan, and that his deportation was unlawful and against the constitution.
Kisiang'ani said it was 'great news' that Miguna was coming back to Kenya after the government confirmed it will comply with court orders to facilitate his return.
The university don regretted that the former Nairobi gubernatorial candidate was subjected to forced exile, saying it should never have happened since he is a Kenyan by birth.
"Am glad Dr Miguna Miguna is coming back home. He is a Kenyan by birth and nothing will ever change that. He should never have been deported! He is a citizen of our great republic. Great news too to hear our government will obey court orders and allow Dr Miguna to return home," Kisiang'ani tweeted on Monday night.
Miguna has hit the government with four demands among them surrendering of his Kenyan passport upon his arrival at the JKIA.
"On January 7, 2020, I'm not asking for any special treatments. I want and demand all my rights and fundamental freedoms to be respected. I want my valid Kenyan passport back. I want court orders to be obeyed and complied with. I must enter Kenya unconditionally as a Kenyan," he said.
