Deputy President William Ruto has responded to remarks that Kibra constituency is the political bedroom of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.
The remarks were made by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna on September 15, in Kisumu County, while suggesting that remains Kibra Raila and ODM's bedrock.
This comes at a time when ODM candidate Imran Okoth is facing stiff competition from Jubilee party's McDonald Mariga, alongside other candidates from several parties.
Speaking on Sunday, the DP dismissed the remark, claiming Kibra residents have been battling abject poverty, and it is actually Jubilee that has helped develop the region.
“I was shocked when an individual laid claim that Kibra is their political bedroom, and the region did not even have toilets and locals are grappling with dire sanitation challenges. It is the Jubilee government that built roads and public toilets in Kibra,” he said.
Ruto made the remarks in Kapseret, Uasin Gishu County, where he held fundraisers for over 10 churches.
He promised to pitch camp in the slum and campaign for Mariga, in a bid to sway the voters, who have for years backed Raila.
Others in the race include Ford Kenya candidate Khamisi Butichi and Amani National Congress (ANC) aspirant Eliud Owalo, all of whom are confident of securing a win on November 7.
