Popular Kikuyu musician John Ng'ang'a better known by his stage name John DeMathew is dead.
The musician died after being involved in a road accident at Blue Post along Thika Road on Sunday.
The incident was confirmed by Thika Base Commander Elenah Wamuyu who said DeMathew’s car rammed into a lorry.
Reports on Citizen indicate that the musician was alone in the vehicle at the time of the accident, and was pronounced dead on arrival at Thika Nursing home.
DeMathew was known for his Kikuyu Benga hits, among them 'My Dear Nduku', 'Nengereria Kane' and 'Menye Menye'.He was born over 50 years ago and has been in the music industry for over 30 years, which has seen him rub shoulders and work with several other Kikuyu musicians.Before his rise to stardom, Mathew hawked tomatoes at the Nairobi's Korogocho market.
