At least two Kenyans have been attacked and seriously injured in the ongoing xenophobic attacks in the Republic of South Africa, Foreign Affairs CS Monica Juma ha confirmed.

South Africa has been witnessing sporadic violence for our a week now with at least five people reportedly killed by rowdy youths targeting black Africans.

Earlier on Wednesday, Kenya's High Commissioner to South Africa Jean Kamau said that the violence is also targeting Kenyans in South Africa.

In a tweet, Ambassador Juma said the two affected people also had their businesses destroyed by errant youths despite warning by South Africa government.

"We woke up to troubling news about xenophobic attacks against non-nationals in several places in South Africa," she said.

"Our Embassy in South Africa is in close contact with the Government to ensure the safety of Kenyans and protection of their property. Reports in hand indicate two Kenyans were affected and their property destroyed," she added.

Nairobi has condemned the violence, urging Pretoria to take charge and restore normalcy in Africa's biggest economy, which is fighting post apartheid effects.

"We welcome the strong condemnation of these attacks by the Government of South Africa and hope that the ethos and values of Pan Africanism will prevail over narrow nationalisms, and be the bonds that glue us together, as African brothers and sisters," she said.

President Cyril Ramaphosa, in a video address broadcast on Twitter, said the attacks are "something totally unacceptable, something that we cannot allow to happen in South Africa."

"I want it to stop immediately," he said, adding that the violence had "no justification."
