Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga has bashed former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale after he slammed Kwale Woman Representative Zuleikha Hassan for taking her baby to the National Assembly.
In a tweet on Thursday, Khalwale said the MP made a stupid mistake and noted her move was likely to set a bad precedent for other breastfeeding women who engage in other formal meetings.
The vocal politician, who served as MP for Ikolomani for 10 years, asked the Woman Rep, who is serving her second term, to respect the Standing Orders as stipulated by the House.
"Hon Zuleikha Hassan, u goofed big time! Should a CS breastfeed in cabinet whilst the President is presiding, or a bank manager when the CEO is chairing a meeting? There is no demeaning, whatsoever, in a quiet withdrawal. Learn to respect the Standing Orders of Kenya Parliament," Khalwale tweeted.
Reacting to the sentiments, Mutunga lashed out at the former Senator and accused him of failing to defend Kenya's Constitution by being a slave of Parliament's Standing Orders (SOs).
"SHAME! SHAME MTETESI. I am shocked you are a slave of parliamentary SOs and not the Constitution!" the ex-CJ posted.
Other politicians who have lauded Zuleikha for her move include former presidential candidate Martha Karua and former Nominated MP Sonia Birdi.
However, the Woman Rep has been castigated by a section of male MPs including Majority Leader Aden Duale and Luanda legislator Chris Omulele, who was the presiding Speaker on Wednesday when she caused the drama.
