As a way of addressing challenges faced by the hearing impaired persons in Nakuru, the county government will in the next two weeks commence a training program for staff on sign language.

Speaking in Nakuru Town on Saturday during the launch of Sign Language For All-SIFA programs, Director Social Services Josephat Kimemia says the county will roll out the training for staff as a way of ensuring equality in terms of service delivery.

According to Kimemia, sign language should not only be left for the hearing impaired persons but for all to ease communication hence the county’s move.

“Sign Language should be embraced by all and that is why the county under the leadership of Governor Lee Kinyanjui will commence in the next two weeks training for staff in all departments,” said Kimemia.

The Director Social services adding that the county government of Nakuru will also ensure training for one or two in all the health facilities in Nakuru County.

He said this will also help ensure the hearing impaired persons can access services without facing challenges.

“The county government of Nakuru is also coming up with a program that will ensure that we have one or two persons trained in matters sign language in all our health facilities,” he said.
