Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji on Wednesday found himself in the center of a storm when he held open forums in Obunga and Manyatta slums in Kisumu.
He had to deal with a lot questions on the progress of the case about Baby Samantha Pendo, who was reportedly killed by the police while in her mother's hands in Nyalenda slums.
Residents demanded to know why no action has been taken against five senior police officers found culpable by the court, eight months down the line.
However, Haji defended the delay, saying his officers have been working on the matter and the process of pursuing the case will be starting at the end of the month.
“The Baby Pendo case is about to be completed. We will ensure that those who led to her death will face the law,” said the DPP.
In a petition read by Kisumu City Residents Voice chair Audi Ogada, locals wondered why 400 people who were allegedly beaten by the police, during the 2017 post election unrest haven't been served justice.
"If we cannot get justice under you, Mr Haji, we doubt if we will ever get justice,” he said.
