Ongoing wrangles between Taita Taveta assembly and executive could be solved soon following a meeting better Raila Odinga and the assembly on Monday.
Three weeks ago, a determined Governor Granton Samboja met President Uhuru Kenyatta and Mr Odinga separately, informing them on plans to collect signatures for dissolution of the county.
But Mr Odinga, who preferred dialogue, hosted the MCAs at his Capitol Hill offices for close to three hours on Monday, where he called for dialogue to solve the standoff.
The ODM leader said he had sent a team to the county to investigate the matter, adding that he was keen to hold a joint meeting between the executive and the assembly.
"H.E. Raila Odinga this afternoon held consultations with members of the Taita Taveta County Assembly who sought audience over the stand-off with the County’s Executive.Mr. Odinga took the opportunity to call for an end to the adversarial relationship between county assemblies and county executives.
"He also called for an end to the adversarial relationship between the National government and county governments. At the meeting, Mr. Odinga expressed deep disappointment with the wastage and outright theft of public resources being witnessed in counties some of which is coming out in court cases currently going on," spokesman Dennis Onyango said.
Last week, Samboja refused to allow the church to step in, arguing that the matter needed a political settlement. He argued that the assembly was not ready to listen.
MCAs want Sh41 million set aside per very ward as developmentdiscussed kitty, a suggestion that has been opposed by the Wiper governor.
“Nothing can stop this process. At 38,000 signatures as of Monday this week and still going, this process is unstoppable,” Samboja told Saturday Standard while scoffing at calls for a dialogue.
“I have received hundreds of calls asking me to give dialogue a chance. But then, how do you initiate dialogue with individuals who have put their cards under the table?”
