The FA said that it had taken the decision because of the disturbance that the Manchester City player had caused in a private area.

Sterling took to social media to confirm to his followers that he had had a scuffle with a teammate 22-year-old Joe Gomez, saying that the two had resolved the issues between them.

Gomez and Sterling sparred at Anfield when Manchester City suffered a 3-1 defeat to rivals Liverpool.

"Both Joe and I have had words and figured things out and moved on," Sterling said on Instagram according to an article by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

"We are in a sport where emotions run high and I am man enough to admit when emotions got the better of me."This is why we play this sport because of our love for it - me and Joe Gomez are good, we both understand it was a five to 10 second thing... it's done, we move forward and not make this bigger than it is, " he added.

The coach of the English national team said that the emotions were still raw and there was still a need to separate club rivalries from the national team.
