Speaking on prime time television on Wednesday, the outspoken legislator reiterated that he was not interested in more pay.

He strongly rejected the notion peddled by some legislators that the bulk of their salaries go to their constituents, saying that they should have opted for other lucrative careers.

"It is pointless we are doing badly, oh we are asked for money by constituents, oh we are asked for this and that but you had a chance to be a fisherman, you had a chance to be a carpenter. It was open to you, " Moses Kuria fired. (9:07-9:37)

Kuria's strong words come in the context of a public outcry over a unilateral bid by members of parliament to increase their salaries.

The MPs contend that they don't earn enough and are left with hardly enough money after donating the bulk of their salaries to their constituents.

Parliamentarians are locked in a tussle with the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) over the legislators push to increase their wages.

SRC contends that the move is unconstitutional as it is the only body mandated by law to set the salaries of state officers.
