Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa has weighed in on the deadly tragedy at the Precious Talent Top School that claimed the lives of 7 children and left dozens more injured.
Speaking on Standard Media Group-owned Kenya Television Network (KTN) on Tuesday, the governing Jubilee Party legislator said that Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha should take responsibility for the tragedy by tendering his resignation.
"I want to say this without fear that CS Magoha should take responsibility and even resign from his position, " the Kimilili MP. (0:33-0:43)
His words come amid shock at the collapse of a storied building in the Nairobi school that has been blamed on structural issues the building had.
In his remarks to the press, the Education CS called on the media to stop sensationalising the tragedy and trading blame.
The cabinet secretary, who mounted an impassioned defence of officials in the ministry, did not give any indication that he was willing to resign following the tragedy.
Resignations of cabinet secretaries in the wake of national tragedies are rare unlike in other countries where ministers step down from their offices as the ultimate display of taking responsibility.
Students at the Precious Talent Top School have been directed to stay at home until Monday so as to allow investigations to be carried out.
