Gerald Warui is the new Equity Bank Kenya Managing Director.
Warui succeeds Former Nairobi Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe who left for Vivo where he will serve a regional role. Warui now becomes the fourth managing director of the firm.
Igathe is expected to officially handover the office to Warui at the end of the August after he completes his term as per the resignation letter. Warui has worked at the firm for the last 21 years.
The new MD is a holder of a Master of Business Administration degree from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
The firm management is optimistic that he is the right man to fit in Igathe’s shoes once he completes his tenure after he announced his next destination.
“The Board thanks Mr. Igathe for his dedicated and impactful service to Equity and wishes him well in his new role with one of the Equity’s most valued partners and look forward to deepening the existing relationship across the continent,” read a statement to newsrooms, as quoted by Citizen Digital.
Igathe has been a role model for many youths in the banking industry. He decided to call it quits with Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko while citing irreconcilable differences
