Speaking during her burial at Fort Tenan Koru, Kisumu County, Abonyo, who is an engineer by profession said that it was not easy for him to marry Laboso considering the fact that he was an outsider.

The contractor said that the father never wanted his daughter to marry from another community but he later changed his mind after things started working for them.

He also said that he deeply loved her and had promised to stand with her until death separated them.

Abonyo also recalled how he almost gave when things were tough on their side.

"I remember when I wanted to marry Joyce, the father was opposed to her being married to an ‘outsider’, " he said, as quoted by Daily Nation.

"I could have given up had it not been for my mother in law who is now deceased," he said.

He also promised not to abandon the family left behind following the demise of his wife. Abonyo also praised the late county boss for being a good wife and mother of his children. He said that he truly treasures the time they shared before death took her from him.
