Peter karanja who is a suspect in the murder of Dutch businessman Tob Cohen has pleaded with the court to release him on bail.
In an application tabled in court on Thursday, the suspect who claims he has been in police custody for more than 30 days promised to obey the terms and conditions that the court will set should his application be accepted.
He cited that he was on several occasions been questioned during unofficial hours.
“I was on various days taken from custody at Kiambu and taken to DCI headquarters under the guise of interrogations and questioned in the wee hours of the night running up to 2 am,” the application read.
Karanja pointed out that his detention was not right and further revealed that it was aimed at obtaining information.
“I believe this is not right and was only meant to physically and mentally torture me for purposes of obtaining information which I clearly could not provide.” Karanja stated in the application.
The application will be heard on Tuesday next week to allow Cohen's family to respond.
Karanja's application comes shortly after Sarah Wairimu who is also a key suspect in the case was released on a cash bail of Sh2 million.
