A suspected robber was on Wednesday gunned down by the police in Jomvu, Mombasa County.
Jomvu police boss James Mutua said a tip-off led them to a residential area of Aldina in Jomvu where they had traced the suspected robber.
Mutua said the law enforcers stormed a one-bedroom house where the suspect identified as George Oriando alias Blackie was living in, in an attempt to arrest the suspect but he shot at the officers leading to an exchange of fire.
He said the officer managed to gun down the suspect adding that there were no casualties on the side of the police.
“Our officers retreated back and that is when we deployed other officers to flush out the suspect. The mission was successful,” said Mutua as quoted by standardmedia.co.ke.
Mutua said the suspect was alone in the house however they suspect the robber might have been living with other criminals.
The police recovered a Berreta pistol loaded with six bullets which they suspect might have been stolen from a police officer.
The police boss who thanked the public for volunteering information urged them to continue working with the police and give information over any criminal activities or suspects in the area.
The body was taken to Coast General Hospital mortuary.
