Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o on Sunday approved the plans by the county government to construct for him and his deputy's residence amounting to Sh70 million.
The residence of the Governor will be valued at Sh40 million while that of the deputy will be Sh30 million which is six times less than the amount that had been proposed for the project. Earlier on, there were plans to spent Sh250 million on the project.
Sources indicate that the residents will be established on the land recovered from the grabbers by the county government.
The Governor said that the government has plans to purchase any piece of land as a way to save on the cost set to be incurred at the end of the day.
“The premises will be put up on county government land. We will not purchase land for this. We expect to boost the land bank by further acquisitions, including of illegally allotted parcels of land,” he said, as quoted by Standard.
The move came after the Salaries and Remuneration Commission asked the county governments to ensure that they have put up residences for all the Governors and their deputies before the end of the financial year.
Before the budget was reached, residents from different parts of the county had raised concern over the huge amount the county government had planned to invest in the project at the end of the day.
