Political analyst Prof Edward Kisiang'ani insists that the country is divided more than ever despite the ongoing Building Bridges Initiative campaigns.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga have often insisted that the BBI report will finally bring the country together.
But according to Kisiang'ani, the ongoing campaigns have further divided the country than it was before.
"If you are a hypocrite you will argue our country is more united now than it was in 2002,2007,2013 and 2017 n now 2020. But am not a hypocrite. Am a realist. BBI moves to Mombasa kesho n the disunity is obvious . We are more divided than we have ever been.Threats conditions etc," he said.
On Friday, Raila Odinga dismissed claims that he's using the BBI to advance his quest for 2022 presidential bid.
“We did not discuss anything to do with President Kenyatta helping me become president and him becoming prime minister. This is propaganda by those opposed to the BBI process. We came up with BBI to unite Kenyans and not to create divisions,” he said.
However, DP William Ruto believes that the process has been hijacked for political purposes ahead of 2022 polls.
“There is a scheme to adulterate and hijack the process to end up with a report Kenyans did not propose. Rallies may continue with all the drama but we must have in place a structure where ordinary people will have an opportunity to present their views,” he said.
