Police officers in Nyamira county are holding a 52-year-old man following the circumcision of his two granddaughters aged 7 and 8 years.
The suspect, Henry Mabuka was arrested by police officers from Magombo police station on Wednesday morning at Riaranga village in Gekano, Manga in Nyamira County.
While confirming the arrest, Magombo police inspector Geoffrey Makori said members of the public informed police that the two girls were in the suspect's house after the cut was done.
"Members of the public tipped us and without wasting time police officers and I stormed the suspect's house only to find the two young girls in the house. Upon questioning the minors they admitted that the cut was done on them," said Makori.
The father of the girls escaped immediately he spotted police officers at his compound.
"We arrested the grandfather to the minors because the minors were in his house since the father of the minors escaped into the nearby maize farm while the mother to the girls was not at home," he stated.
The suspect is expected to be taken to court and be charged for practising Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), an illegal practice.
Makori assured that the parents of the girls are being hunted down to be arrested as well.
