In a tweet on Tuesday afternoon, the outspoken legislator noted that some of the foreign companies import their own workers from their country to work for them here in Kenya.

The senator also called on the immigration department to stop allowing into the countries foreigners who come to work in jobs that can be easily done by locals.

''Many unemployed QUALIFIED Kenyans can work in any company doing business in Kenya. However, foreign Companies in Kenya import even sweepers to work for them. @ImmigrationDept you must stop this! We need an audit of all foreign owned companies doing business in Kenya,'' Ledama Olekina tweeted.

An unemployment rate in the country, especially among the youths, is very high.

There have been calls for the government to put in place measures to address the issue by ensuring foreigners don't engage in jobs that locals are able to do.
