Machakos County Commissioner Esther Maina has warned land grabbers against hoodwinking unsuspecting residents with non-existent land.
Addressing journalists in her office on Tuesday, Maina said that the law won't be lenient on anyone found culpable.
She said that the government won't allow grabbing of government land by greedy cartels.
"We have had cases where some people invade government land and start selling it to unsuspecting buyers knowing it doesn't belong to them," said Maina.
She urged residents to be careful while buying land in Machakos to avoid falling prey to these greedy cartels.
"In Machakos town, if you find someone selling a one-acre piece of land at Sh200,000 just know it's not valid. Who wouldn't want value for money? Land is expensive in Machakos because it's near Nairobi," she said.
She warned residents terming themselves squatters and grabbing government land in Kapiti, Konza, East African Portland Cement, KBC and other areas in Machakos.
She asked those who have occupied public land to move out before the government cracks the whip on them.
"Those who bought land in Kapiti, Konza, KBC and the East African Portland Cement in Mavoko the time has come for you to vacate failure to which the government will be forced to kick you out," she said.
