Police in Matungulu on Thursday were forced to use teargas to disperse members of the Koma Housing Society who had staged demonstrations in the area.
The members led by Justus Mutua vandalised signposts erected by the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) in a disputed piece of land.
They maintained that the land belonged to them adding that plans to deprive them of their rights were politically instigated.
"This land belongs to the members but there are so many political leaders who don't sleep trying to ensure this land is taken from us," said Mutua.
He said that the society has all the necessary documents to prove that the land belongs to them.
The irate members blocked the Nairobi-Kangundo road for a few hours before the police dispersed them.
Matungulu Sub-County Police Commander Joel Kirui noted that several people were arrested, adding that those arrested will be questioned and charged in court.
"The members started removing the signposts belonging to KBC so we came and restrained them. We have arrested a few of them we will interrogate them and prefer some charges against them," said Kirui.
On Wednesday Machakos County Commissioner Esther Maina issued a stern warning to residents occupying government land, noting that they should vacate with immediate effect.
She said that some people have grabbed government land in Kapiti, Koma, Konza and Mavoko, adding that the government will soon be forced to kick them out.
