Seven Gusii Members of Parliament (MPs) and a deputy governor allied to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party who are supporting Deputy President William Ruto's presidential bid in 2022 on Thursday held a closed-door meeting at an undisclosed hotel.
The MPs are Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango), Vincent Kemosi (West Mugirango), Alpha Miruka (Bomachoge Chache), Ezekiel Machogu (Nyaribari Masaba), Innocent Obiri (Bobasi), Bonchari MP Oroo Oyioka and Prof Zadoc Ogutu of Bomachoge Borabu constituency.
Also present during the meeting was Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi who chaired the meeting.
"The foundation of driving development and stimulating economic growth and attaining shared prosperity is by all leaders focusing on alliance building, unity of purpose and working together irrespective of their political persuasions. Met with Members of Parliament from Kisii and Nyamira Counties to discuss how best the region can benefit from the national resources," Maangi posted on his Facebook page on Thursday.
The meeting comes days after the leaders hosted Deputy President William Ruto in Nyamira County.
The politicians are expected to be DP Ruto's campaigners in the Gusii region ahead of the 2022 polls.
Ruto has been keen to get votes from the vote-rich Kisii and Nyamira counties which are perceived to be opposition chief Raila Odinga's stronghold.
