Political commentator Philip Chebunet now claims that the ODM fraternity might have been shocked by the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) outcome.

According to the Eldoret-based commentator, looking at the BBI's list of recommendations, it's clear that most of the things that were being pushed for by ODM are nowhere in the report.

He says that the proposed changes do not need a referendum to be realised, which comes as a disappointment for ODM.

"The ODM fraternity has gone silent since what they wanted is not there, there is neither a referendum nor a tsunami. They never even thought that the Deputy President William Ruto would be there (Hawa wanaODM wamenyamaza kwa sababu kile walitaka hakuna; hakuna referendum wala tsunami. Hata hawakudhani Ruto atakuwa pale)," he told Billy Miya on Radio Maisha on Wednesday.

His remarks come at a time when Ruto's allies, who were opposed to the changes, including the formation of the BBI task force, are the ones seen happily embracing the proposals.

According to Chebunet, its likely that the task force was forced into trashing it first, which might have been anti-Ruto, hence the delay in launching the report.

"I think the noise that was being made by Ruto and company has been of help because I believe this is not the original report (Ile makelele ya akina Ruto nadhani imesaidia kwa sababu huenda hii ripoti sio ile ya kwanza)," he added.

ODM leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday lauded the BBI task force, terming the report new dawn, adding that Kenyans will be allowed to help in polishing it.

The report, if implemented, will see the nation adopt a hybrid cabinet system, made up of ministers picked from both inside and outside the parliament.
