A Nakuru court has sentenced a trader, David Njoroge to 20 years in jail for stabbing his neighbour to death.
Appearing before Justice Janet Mulwa on Wednesday, Njoroge was denied a non-custodial sentence.
“I find that a non-custodial sentence won’t serve the purpose a sentence is made to serve to deter, rehabilitate, restore justice, denounce sin and protect the community,” ruled Justice Mulwa.
She said the 20-year sentence was based on the fact that the accused was sick and had been previously operated on his abdomen.
Secondly, she noted that this was the first time he had committed an offence and the accused pleadings against being handed a death sentence.
“I, therefore, proceed to sentence the accused to 20 years’ imprisonment,” she ruled.
On August 20 2014, Njoroge allegedly stabbed Kennedy Waithigo after he spilt his milk.
Njoroge has 14 days to appeal.
