Mathare Member of Parliament Anthony Oluoch has said the national government should take over the management of Nairobi County following the arrest of Governor Mike Sonko.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday, Alouch said a crisis is looming if the government will not address the matter as soon as possible.
“I think the national government should take over the running of Nairobi County,” he said.
He argued that the lack of a deputy governor makes it hard for the management to continue, adding that there is no provision in the Constitution for the speaker to act as governor, in the event of anything.
Regarding reports that the Council of Governors has asked to meet President Uhuru Kenyatta following the arrest of Sonko, Oluoch noted that COG may be concerned by the looming crisis.
“I think the Council of Governors is concerned about the situation in Nairobi county and for good reason. The circumstances seem to send panic that we may run into a crisis The Speaker may not act as Governor as we do not have a vacancy per se,” he added.
Sonko was arrested on Friday in Voi following an order from Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji.
