There was the turn of events on Wednesday after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced that popular blogger Cyprian Nyakundi will be charged with extortion.
A statement from DCI that was shared on Twitter further indicates that Nyakundi will appear before the court together with his co-accused Emmanuel Nyamweya.
It is alleged that the two attempted to extort money amounting to Sh17.5 million and had received a deposit of Sh1 million.
It is reported that the two had asked for the money so as not to publish an article that appeared on a website that is managed by them.
DCI indicated that the two will be arraigned in court on Friday.
“The suspects will appear before court on 24th January, 2020 to face charges of extortion contrary to section 300 (1) of the Penal Code,” a tweet from DCI read.
Earlier on, reports from The Standard had indicated that the prosecution and the defence had agreed to settle the matter out of court and consequently the charges against Nyakundi had been dropped.
Nyakundi is however not new to controversy, he has previously been arraigned in court over the contents that he published online.
A popular politcian Steve Mbogo once sued him for publishing slanderous article.
