Renowned city lawyer Donald Kipkorir has opined that the move by the Uasin Gishu County Assembly to pass the proposed Punguza Mizigo Bill is an indication that the county has defied President Uhuru Kenyatta.
According to Kipkorir, Uasin Gishu being Deputy President William Ruto's home turf not only went against President Uhuru but also the DP who has on several occasions pledged loyalty to the Head of State.
''Our President initiated BBI & repeatedly said will implement its recommendations including Constitutional Amendments...Our DP has time & again pledged his loyalty as Principal Assistant ... Uasin Gishu County Assembly as DP’s Home County is, therefore, insubordinating both," tweeted Kipkorir on Wednesday.
Uasin Gishu County has become the first county to pass the Punguza Mizigo Bill being fronted by Thirdway Alliance Party leader Ekuru Aukot.
Patrick Bundotich, chairman of the Assembly's Delegated and Legislative Committee while speaking to the press on Tuesday after passing the Bill noted that they were convinced by the contents of the Bill which seeks to ensure resources are brought to the grassroots.
''The Bill having gone through the committee, the County Assembly and public participation by citizens of Uasin Gishu, we unanimously agreed to support it,” said Bundotich.
Kipkorir's sentiments come after DP Ruto's allies dismissed the BBI terming it a power-seeking initiative among the people who are proposing it.
"The extent to which the BBI collected views does not warrant to claim the findings represent views of the country’s general public. They only held meetings in urban areas and with a predefined audience that favours its proponents," Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika said on September 1, during Ruto's Nakuru visit.
BBI was initiated by President Uhuru and ODM leader Raila Odinga to inquire from Kenyans what should be done to end political injustices and have an inclusive government.
