Political analyst Philip Chebunet has opined that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga will finally have his way as far as the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) taskforce report is concerned.
The 14-member team was compiled by Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta after their 2018 truce, with the intention of coming up with solutions to the nation's post-polls issues.
Chebunet now argues that Raila's appointment of members into the team was strategically aimed at ensuring that he realises the referendum bid that he has been pushing for.
Speaking on Monday, the commentator observed that Raila cleverly picked sharp lawyers, as opposed to Uhuru's side which comprises of aged people.
He argued that the lawyers must get a way of convincing the remaining team to go the referendum way, adding that they will easily do it thanks to their sharp legal minds.
"The trick Raila used is that he brought in lawyers into the BBI, the likes of Amos Wako and Adams Oloo while Jubilee brought old people. The aged people will be sleeping when others will be writing the report (Ukora ambayo Raila aliweka BBI, aliweka mawakili kama akina Amos Wako na Adams Oloo Jubilee nayo ikaleta wazee. Hawa watu watakapokuwa wanaandika hii ripoti wazee watakuwa wamelala)," he said on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha show on Monday morning.
He further argued that while the Uhuru team is thinking that the plan is to unite Kenyans, the Raila side has been instructed to work towards subjecting the nation to constitutional amendments.
"There's a trick, the old people think that the plan is to unite Kenyans (Ujanja upo, lakini wazee wanadhani wanaunganisha wakenya)," he added.
Raila who has been pushing for changes to expand the executive arm of government has assured Kenyans that a referendum is inevitable.
