Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party seems to have abandoned push for powerful Prime Minister post, which they fronted during presentations to BBI team.
Lately, the Orange party has been calling for the creation of the post, arguing that the country should revert to the parliamentary system of government.
But on Tuesday, ODM seemed to drop the calls for a powerful PM, calling for the accommodation of other people's views.
The party insisted that the Building Bridges Initiative report is inclusive, adding that everybody's views matter for final documentation.
“Even though that’s what we presented and wanted, we must, however, be able to listen and accommodate the views of Kenyans who presented a different opinion,” party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said when asked about the party’s quest for a powerful PM and single seven-year presidential term.
And reading the formal statement after the meeting, Sifuna said: “As a party, we are cognizant of the fact that BBI process is a consultative give and take and that no one party or individual can bulldoze the discussion or indeed the outcome.”
But despite putting a brave face in public following proposals to have a weak Prime Minister by BBI, ODM lawmakers are said to have asked Raila Odinga to renew push for a parliamentary system.
For instance, Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino is said to have joined other lawmakers in calling for powerful PM and two deputies.
“There should be an Executive Prime Minister and also the PM should have two deputies, with one below the age of 45," Babu argued.
