Speaking on Wednesday in Nyamira town, Mariba said he will not condone lazy chiefs, who are not keen with their job.

"Chiefs and their assistants should ensure that cases of illicit brew businesses are dealt with. We cannot watch our people dying," he said.

The commissioner regretted that a section of youths have ventured into alcohol consumption, arguing that brewing had gone rampant in some villages.

He appealed to the local administrators to apprehend notorious illicit liquor dealers and surrender them to police for prosecution.

"Anyone selling outlawed liquor should be dealt with accordingly. Bar and night clubs owners should obtain valid licences before running their businesses," he said.

The county security boss urged residents to shun alcohol consumption, adding that parents should focus on paying school fees for their children.
