A suspected Al-Shabaab attack in Wajir on Friday evening left at least eight people dead.
The attackers are alleged to have stopped a Medina bus that was heading to Mandera at a place between Kutulo and Wargadud areas in Wajir County.
They then proceeded to exclude non-local passengers.
The bus driver together with a section of the passengers were allowed to leave while those who remained behind were killed.
North Eastern regional commissioner Mohamed Birik confirmed the attack adding that the non-locals were the ones who were executed.
“Yes, I can confirm that the attack indeed occurred and we lost eight innocent lives of Kenyans. It is unfortunate that al Shabaab have perfected the art of killing innocent souls. It is devilish and sad that their thirst for the blood of innocent Kenyans persists," Birik stated.
"As a government, we will never relent. We will go for them and smoke them out of their hideouts. Our resolve to completely eliminate this region of these heartless people is never in doubt," he added.
Security officers were deployed to the crime scene.
Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi condemned the attack and urged security officers to be more vigilant.
“I want to appeal to our security apparatus to remain proactive and on alert at all times. we cannot be loosing live in the hands of the militants in this day and age,” he stated.
Approximately a month ago, another suspected Al-Shabaab militia launched an attack on Dadajabula Police Station in Wajir.
