Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua’s political career is in danger after forty-six members of the county assembly appended signatures in a move to smoke him out of office.
The move comes after the MCA’s accused the outspoken governor of abuse of office, lack of public participation in decision making and integrity issues.
The county assembly members will present the impeachment motion before the house on Tuesday in a bid to oust him from power.
The Machakos County has 59 members and an impeachment motion requires signatures of two-third majority votes in order to pass as stated in the constitution.
According to the MCA’s Governor Mutua did not consult them before he erected three statues for Muindi Mbingu, Paul Ngei and Mulu Mutisya that were unveiled during the Mashujaa Day celebrations held in Machakos county.
Deputy Speaker Nathaniel Nganga has said that the county did not approve any budget towards the erection of the statues before Mashujaa Day celebrations.
Dr Mutua had previously alleged that the MCA’s pushing for his impeachment was attempting to extort money from him and he was not going to bow to the pressure.
“I want to tell them that I will not give them a penny. This money belongs to the people of Machakos and is for development,” he said.
He also cautioned leaders who want him to leave office because of their selfish interest rather than that of the people of Machakos.
