One suspect linked to the torching of a police vehicle at Rwambiti area on the Kianyaga-Kutus road in Gichugu Constituency on Sunday caused drama on Wednesday when Lydiah Wangeci started singing and speaking in tongues.

Appearing before Gichugu Law Courts Chief Magistrate Ann Katheria, the woman was among seven suspects accussed of incitement to violence, arson and malicious damage to property.

The magistrate ordered Lydiah Wangeci to undergo a mental health test before she was presented to the court. The other six suspects were remanded at Kianyaga Police Station as they await arraignment on Friday.

Detectives are also hunting down other suspects. Speaking after arresting six of the seven suspects, acting Kirinyaga East Police Boss Alfred Ng’eno promised not to rest until all involved are brought to book.

“We have six prime suspects, five men and a woman, we won't stop until we bring all suspects to book,” Ng’eno said on Wednesday as quoted by Citizen.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is after locals who torched a police car after it was involved in a road accident that claimed the lives of two locals and left six officers injured. Locals allege that the police car was on the wrong lane while the police blame the boda boda rider.
