President Uhuru Kenyatta has congratulated World Marathon Champion Eliud Kipchoge after breaking the two-hour marathon barrier at INEOS 1:59 Challenge in Vienna, Austria.

In a tweet on Saturday morning, Uhuru lauded Kipchoge for making history. 

"Hearty congratulations @EliudKipchoge. You've done it, you've made history and made Kenya proud while at it. Your win today, will inspire tens of future generations to dream big and to aspire for greatness. We celebrate you and wish you God's blessings,'' wrote State House

Kipchoge finished the 42 KM race in record time 1:59:40.

He becomes the first man in history to run a marathon race in less than two hours.

“I’m feeling good, the first man to run the marathon under two hours and hopefully this inspires mankind. The race was difficult especially the first kilometre which needed a lot of concentration. I want to thank my pacesetters who are a world-class group,'' he said.

“I want to make this sport exciting and transform the world into a running world. I thank the fans who watched me for being part of this journey…this is history,” he added.
