The institution had revealed its plans to lay off the workers as it fights to stay aloft amid the growing financial crisis.

Over the years, the institution has recorded a decline in the number of students enrolling for courses.

While delivering the ruling on the case, Justice Maurine Onyango said that the plan to fire the workers is unlawful.

This is after an application was filed by Kenya Private Universities Workers Union. Onyango also directed the parties involved to file their petition next week on Monday.

“The redundancy notices dated October 19 or any other date after October 16, 2019, October 19, or any other date after October 16 are stayed and or suspended pending inter parties hearing of this application,” ordered Justice Onyango.

The workers lamented that the institution wanted to fire them without following the right procedure.

They wanted the institution to negotiate with them over their payment before any action is taken.

Led by the union Secretary-General Peter Owiti decried being ignored after the plan to sack them was revealed.

The effort of the institution to get funding for the self-sponsored students did not bear fruit hence leading to the reduction of the enrolment.
