In 2017, Mr Odinga championed for reforms in IEBC but was still not convinced with the performance by Wafula Chebukati led team which he defeated in Supreme Court presidential petition.

While lauding his new partnership with President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday at Opoda Farm, Mr Odinga said he's hopeful that recommendations by Building Bridges Initiative will be implemented.

According to him, the country cannot afford to go to elections without proper reforms, adding that the dream of Kenya can be achieved by looking at National Anthem.

“I know there are many people against the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) because it has a number of issues to be addressed, including electoral reforms. The Kenyan dream can only be achieved by looking at what our national anthem says,” he said.

He said the country was on the right path to unity, inclusivity and peace through his deal with President Kenyatta.

Raila, who was accompanied by MPs Oburu Oginga (East African Legislative Assembly), Fred Ouda (Kisumu Central) and Daniel Tuitoek (Mogotio), asked the government to hasten plans to revive Kisumu Cotton Mills (Kicomi).

Dr Oburu urged the government to revive Kisumu Cotton Mills, arguing that the move will help cotton farmers from the region earn a living.

“This factory provided a reliable market for our cotton farmers and we are requesting the government to see that Kicomi is back on its feet,” said Oburu.

The BBI team is currently collecting views from among Kenyans and is likely to recommend a referendum. But the movement suffered a blow on Thursday when IEBC announced that another team led by Ekuru Aukot had collected enough signatures to initiate constitutional changes.
